On the way back you will visit Kichu Lhakhang, built in 659 by King Tibetan Sgrongsen Gampo. After lunch we visit the Ta Dzong (built in 1656 and renovated in 1968), an ancient watch-tower that now houses the National Museum. Below the museum you will find the Paro Dzong Rimpung (literally “The Pile of Jewels) built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Mangyal, the center of the civil and religious of the valley. After breakfast a short drive takes you to Satsam Chorten. From there two hours of walking to the viewpoint of the Monastery. The road will pass through the beautiful forests of pine trees, many of the trees are full of moss that makes them really wonderful and occasionally you’ll also find Tibetan prayer flags. We will stop to rest and freshen up to Taktsang Cafeteria Jakhang and then, with a short drive, we will reach the monastery. The core of the primary Lhakhang was built around the meditation cave of Guru Rimpoche in 1684 by Tenzin Gyaltse Rabgay. This incredible monastery is located on top of a cliff that is 900 meters above the valley below. The legend say the Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who spread Buddhism to Bhutan, flew here with his flying tiger, Dorji Drolo. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria and after lunch we will go back to the hotel, we will do our check out and we will drive to Thimphu, the capital. Overnight.

Other points of interest include the summer residence of Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). We will then visit the dzong Simtokha, the oldest Dzong in Bhutan built by Shabdrung in 1627 and at the end we will visit the Emporium Manufacture followed by shopping for interesting souvenirs in the shops of the capital. Overnight.

Day Five (Thimphu – Punakha: 72 km, 3 hours drive): After breakfast we will drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass. If the weather is good we will stop for a moment to observe the magnificence of the High Himalayas. Lunch at Punakha. After lunch, we visit the Punakha Dzong built in 1637 and located between the River Male Pho Chu and Mo Chu River Female. For a long time, until the advent of the second king, this building served as the seat for the government. The construction of the Dzong was initiated by Guru Rimpoche. There was then a little here called Dzong Chu that housed a statue of Buddha. It is said that Shabdrung ordered the architect, Zowe Palep, to sleep before the statue. During sleep Shabdrung gave the idea to the architect of the Palace and the dream architect designed the new building which, according to tradition, was never drawn on paper. The Dzong was named Druk Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Joy). The spoils of war captured during the battles with the Tibetans are preserved here. Punakha is still the winter residence of the Je Khenpo and King Jigme Dorji Wanghuck held here before the National Assembly in 1952. Overnight.

Day Six (Punakha – Trongsa – Bumthang): We will leave early this morning. After breakfast we will travel to Bumthang. The legend says that the builders were trying to choose a place to build the Dzong and four ravens were seen flying from one point in four different directions. It was considered of good auspicious because it represented the expansion of religion in the four directions. The Dzong is situated at the confluence of Mo Chu and Tang Chu river. Lunch in Trongsa. After lunch we visit the Trongsa Dzong, one of the Dzong more ‘impressive, built in 1644 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa and then expanded in the seventeenth century by Shabdrung and terminated by Desi Tenzin Rabgay. The Trongsa Dzong is the ancestral home of the Royal Family and the first two Bhutanese King reigned from this Dzong. Then we visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watch-tower. The chapel inside the tower is dedicated to Jigme Namgyal. Finally we will go to Bumthang. Overnight.

We will pass Lamey Goemba, a large monastery built in the eighteenth century by Dasho Phuntsho Wangdi. Visit Jambay Lhakhang built by Srongsen Gampo of Tibet in 659. Under the temple it is said there is a lake where Guru Rimpoche had thermal baths. In October one of the festivals most ‘spectacular, the “Jambay Lhakhang Drup”, is held here. After lunch we visit Chakhar Bumthang (literally Castle Iron) that is the site of the palace of an Indian King, the Raja Sindhu, who invited Guru Rimpoche in Bumthang.
