Koh Chang Archipelago
This archipelago, besides the homonymous island of Koh Chang (which in Thai means ‘island of the elephants’) also belong the beautiful islands of Koh Mak, Koh Kood, Koh Wai and the Marine Park of Koh Rang. The archipelago is located in the Gulf of Thailand, 280 km south-east of Bangkok, on the road that leads from the capital to the border with Cambodia. These beautiful places, as well as offering the chance to extend their holiday with a tour in the neighbouring country ( the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia are considered by UNESCO one of the seven wonders of the world!), represent a true tropical paradise, not yet known by mass tourism.
Archipelago of Koh Samui
Located in the Gulf of Thailand, the archipelago is located 550 kilometers south of Bangkok and, besides the famous island of Koh Samui, including: the island of Koh Phangan (famous for its Full Moon Party, wild beach parties during the full moon), the island of Koh Tao (considered one of the favorite destinations in Thailand for scuba and snorkelling), and other smaller islands.
Phuket and the islands of the Andaman Sea
Phuket is the largest island in Thailand, the well-known Phi Phi island, Koh Lanta, Koh Lipe and many other smaller islands are located instead in the Andaman Sea on the southwest coast of Thailand, about 900 kilometers south of Bangkok.
Islands of fun
For those in search of a holiday resort type, but still want for this fun night, we point out the ‘island of Koh Phangan , known especially among the very young to the famous Full Moon Party that takes place each month at Full Moon.
The Full Moon Party can be considered the biggest beach party in the world, during high season, more than 30,000 people dancing non stop until sunrise, accompanied by the music of dozens of nightclubs set up on the beach for the occasion with DJ from all over the world. Despite this feature, Koh Phangan is still a calm tropical paradise waiting to be discovered: terminate the full-moon parties, everything returns to flow according to the slow pace typical of the Thai islands.
Even Phi Phi Island is an island very lively, offering lots of night life especially for the younger (average age of 18 to 25 years old), while Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Chang offer different types of entertainment for the night an age group more adult.
New tourist destination: Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood
Among the latest discoveries tourist in Thailand, there is certainly Koh Chang archipelago that with a “lucky” late development, advanced services and can present today unspoiled landscapes, still without being a destination for mass tourism.
Koh Chang is the third largest island of Thailand (after Phuket and Koh Samui) and is part of an archipelago of about 189 islands and islets, many of which are still uninhabited, a paradise for nature lovers, diving activities and for those who like to explore unspoiled tropical paradises. Other beautiful islands are to Koh Mak (chosen by the Sunday Times of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world still unknown to mass tourism), and Koh Kood (in our opinion a true earthly paradise! ) and the small island Koh Wai.
An ideal destination for the family in Thailand
Thailand in general and its islands in particular are ideal places to spend a family holiday . Phuket and Koh Samui are probably the best equipped locations as they offer many activities and entertainment suitable for children, and hotels with Club formula. But if your children do not need anything but white sand, blue sea, and colourful fish, you should consider the small island of Koh Mak, known as “family friendly island”, a true island friend of the families!
Wellness destinations in Thailand
For the beauty and tranquillity of its places, the kindness and tolerance of its people, Thailand is an ideal place for relaxation and care of body and spirit. The tradition of massage is also widespread throughout Thailand, and the recent tourist demand has produced a veritable boom of luxurious spas specialize. Consider, therefore, the Land of Smiles, as an ideal destination for your rest, treatment and wellness treatments.
The most beautiful beach of Thailand ?
Have you seen the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio and you want to lose yourself in the beautiful lagoon, then you’ll have to go to Phi Phi Island and from there with a hike to reach Maya Bay, the place where it was filmed.
It is certainly a very beautiful island, but do not plan to get to a lonely place as the protagonist of the film ! The island has become famous all over the world and being very small is often overcrowded and visited daily by hundreds of boats. Phi Phi Island attracts mostly young tourists and casual addition to beaches like discos and night parties. However, you can go to Phi Phi Island for diving and deep sea fishing, activities very well organized in the island.
What is the best location for scuba diving ?
Although in Thailand can go diving everywhere, the small island of Koh Tao (located about 1 hour boat ride from Koh Samui and Koh Phangan) is not only the most famous island for diving in Thailand , but also one of the the most famous in the world, which is why she was awarded the PADI GOLD Certificate .
For beach lovers and divers also we highlight the Marine Park Koh Rang, a few minutes by boat from the island of Koh Mak and Koh Chang. The park offers several dive sites, many coral reefs and a myriad of multi-colored tropical fish. The park is a protected nature reserve, which is why the island has no resort, but only a Ranger station. To visit the town must therefore buy excursions from the nearby islands of Koh Mak (closest) and Koh Chang. Also the pristine Koh Kood island offer a suerb diving and even nice snorkelling few meters form the beach.
